Michael was beaten up on Friday 25th July '08 in what Police describe as a homophobic attack in Huyton, Liverpool.
He had sustained serious head injuries. Sadly on August 2
nd '08 Michael passed away at 12.30pm at Walton Neurology Centre, Liverpool, he was just 18 years old. Please join and show your support for his family & friends.
According to witnesses from the recent Gavin Alker trial, Michael was asleep and dragged out of bed by his ankles by Gavin Alker who then initiated a ferocious attack upon Michael shouting homophobic abuse at him. James O'Connor then joined in the attack where Michael was punched, kicked in the face and stomped on.
Michael had sustained fractures to his face, his nose was broken, his jaw was broken and as a result suffered massive brain injuries.
One of the attackers not content with the injuries he had caused, according to witnesses, took a knife to rip out the piercings Michael had on his body and also asked for pliers to do the same but, he was stopped in doing this. Also, took a lighter to set the hairs on Michael's leg alight.
Throughout, Michael Binsteed single handedly tried to both stop and protect Michael from the attack and save him from further torture. To end the terrifying ordeal, Michael Binsteed took Michael out of the house and called an ambulance when he began to bleed profusely from his nose, mouth and ears.
When the 999 operator asked what had happened, Michael Binsteed, in shock and through fear of the attackers told them Michael had been attacked by three lads on Tarbock Road.
Michael Binsteed was arrested and charged for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

James O'Connor changed his plea to guilty of murder on January 27th '09. He is currently awaiting his sentence.
On the 20th February '09 the jury at Liverpool Crown Court delivered their verdict for Gavin Alker - NOT guilty of murder, NOT guilty of manslaughter.

On Monday 23rd March '09, Justice King sentenced James O'Connor for 23 years imprisonment for the murder of Michael Causer, serving 11 1/2 years minimum before he can apply for parole.
Michael Binsteed received a 2 year suspended sentence with 200 hours community service for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Liverpool's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Network has established The Michael Causer Fund in memory of Michael Causer.
The fund is administered free of charge by Liverpool Charity & Voluntary Services, the organisation which also administers the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund and the Johnny Delaney Foundation. Money from The Michael Causer Fund has so far been used to pay for Michael's funeral and we are in the process of raising the money to buy a copy of the Judge's summing up in the trial of one of the individuals accused of Michael's murder.
Decisions to spend money from the fund are made by Michael's parents and the members of Liverpool's LGB&T Network Steering Group. One future project will be a lasting memorial to Michael situated in Liverpool's Gay Quarter.
